About the Ruta de las Flores tour
The Ruta de las Flores tour (Flowers Route) follows a mountain road through western El Salvador’s coffee country. First you visit the craft market of Nahuizalco, then you ride the Rainbow Slide or the Bike Zipline at Café Albania. After lunch you walk the painted streets of Concepción de Ataco, and finally you soak in the Santa Teresa hot springs.
Nahuizalco
Our first stop is Nahuizalco, whose name means “the four Izalcos” in the Nahuatl language. It is one of the towns with the strongest Indigenous roots in El Salvador, and here your guide tells you about one of the historical events that most affected the cultural and Indigenous legacy of the country. Then we walk through the municipal market, where villagers sell their fresh produce every day, so you can taste tropical fruits you may not find at home. Nahuizalco is also known for its wicker and tule crafts, used to make baskets, chairs and mats by hand.
Café Albania
Next, we drive up to Café Albania, an adventure park on a coffee farm in Apaneca, the highest town in El Salvador. Your ticket for one activity is included: you choose the Rainbow Slide or the Bike Zipline over the coffee fields. Everything else at the park is optional. If you want more adventure, you can pay on site for the regular zipline, the giant swing or Los Espejos; if not, you can simply enjoy the views of the coffee mountains.
Concepción de Ataco
After lunch, we continue to Concepción de Ataco, one of the most charming towns on the Ruta de las Flores. It is known for its vibrant murals and colorful cobblestone streets, a mix of art and tradition. Ataco is also famous for its coffee culture: local cafés and artisan shops show off the flavors of the region. As you stroll through its markets you will find handmade crafts and textiles. For many travelers, Ataco captures the essence of the Salvadoran highlands and is the highlight of the day.
Termales de Santa Teresa
Finally, we end the day at the Santa Teresa hot springs near Ahuachapán. Your entrance gives you access to all the pools, fed by volcanic water. However, the mud bath is optional and has an extra cost.

We drive back to San Salvador and arrive around 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Yes. The walking is easy, though some streets are cobblestone. Café Albania sets its own age, height and weight rules for each activity.
