About the Tamanique waterfalls tour
The Tamanique waterfalls tour blends nature, adventure and relaxation in one day. First you hike through the green hills of La Libertad to a series of waterfalls and natural pools, where you can swim and jump off the rocks. Then you head down to El Tunco, the most famous beach in El Salvador, for lunch and a slow afternoon by the ocean.
The Tamanique waterfalls hike
From the village of Tamanique, a guided trail takes you through tropical vegetation to the falls. On the way your guide talks about the local plants, animals and community life. The trail is steep and uneven in parts, so good shoes make a difference.
Waterfalls and natural pools
Once you reach the falls you have about 2 hours to swim, jump off the rocks if you want, take photos or just relax in the fresh water. Your local guide shows you the safe spots and keeps an eye on the group the whole time.
El Tunco Beach
After cooling off, we drive down to the Pacific coast. El Tunco is the country’s most iconic surf town, with black sand, a laid-back vibe and famous sunsets. You can choose from many restaurants for lunch, walk past the murals and shops, or watch the surfers.

Tamanique village and hike

Tamanique waterfalls

Hike back
We walk back to the village and drive down to the coast.

Because of the steep trails, we recommend it for travelers 12 and up who are comfortable hiking.

No. You have free time to have lunch at one of the many restaurants in El Tunco.
What if it rains?+
The tour usually runs rain or shine, but heavy rain can make the trails slippery. If it is not safe, we reschedule or offer another tour.

The dry season (November to May) has the safest trails, but the waterfalls are beautiful all year.
