About the Cihuatán rum tour

The Cihuatán rum tour combines rum, history and colonial charm in one day. First you visit the Cihuatán rum distillery, from the sugar cane fields to the barrel rooms, and finish with a tasting. Then you walk the cobblestone streets of Suchitoto, a colonial town above Lake Suchitlán.

The Cihuatán rum distillery

We start the day at 9:00 a.m. at the home of Cihuatán, the rum of El Salvador. Your distillery guide walks you through the sugar cane fields, shows you how the cane becomes molasses and then rum, and takes you into the aging warehouse, stacked high with barrels. The visit ends with a rum tasting.

Suchitoto

Next, we drive to Suchitoto, a colonial town famous for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses and Spanish-era architecture. With your guide you visit the main square, the Santa Lucía church and the municipal market, and you can look out over Lake Suchitlán, a paradise for birdwatchers.

Lunch and free time

Lunch is not included, but we stop at a recommended local restaurant, several of them with views of the lake. Afterwards, you have time to browse the art galleries and the indigo and craft shops Suchitoto is known for.
