ANTIGUA GUATEMALA DAY TOUR DESCRIPTION
Antigua Guatemala is one of the most fascinating UNESCO heritage of humanity in Central America. If you are in El Salvador, you can enjoy our full day tour to Antigua Guatemala from San Salvador and get to know this impressive city of Colonia.
Antigua Guatemala was the third capital founded by the Spanish. The first city had been forced to move by an indigenous uprising, caused by the high amount of taxes imposed on the natives. The second city was destroyed due to a flood resulting from a landslide of the Agua volcano, being forced to perform another migration. It was until 1543 that the city of Santiago de Los Caballeros de Guatemala was founded in the current town. This city began to develop rapidly becoming the general captaincy, ruling from Chiapas in Mexico to the territories of Costa Rica. Finally, the city was badly damaged by a serse of earthquakes, known as the Santa Marta earthquakes, forcing residents to leave the place.
In spite of the damages caused by the earthquakes that it has suffered in countless times, the city has been restored and has returned to inhabit, but here time seems to have stopped, to show us the splendorous beauty with which the Spaniards adorned their cities. Antigua Guatemala is a chest with many stories waiting to be discovered. If you are in El Salvador, El Tunco or San Salvador, take advantage of your stay to discover this Central American treasure.
