FONSECA GULF TOUR DESCRIPTION

The Fonseca Gulf Tour is one of the most amazing activities in El Salvador. Located in the La Union department at 142 miles from San Salvador (3.5 Hours Driving) . The Golfo de Fonseca is considered one of the best natural harbors in the world. An entrance to the Pacific coast shared by El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua in Central America. Within the Gulf of Fonseca is a group of islands shared by the three countries. These islands have long been the cause of conflicts between countries with the gulf. Next to the Gulf of Fonseca is the Conchagua volcano, of which there is no eruptive record.

On this Gulf of Fonseca tour we will enter the sea, using a tourist boat to see all the attractions of this place. We will observe Cuevas de la Barranca, some huge and unique caves where the conchagua volcano is presumed to erupt. You will appreciate the union port, and we will pass in front of some native towns, such as Punta Chiquirin. In this place there is an archaeological site where thousands of buried shells have been found, apparently the product of the diet of ancestral indigenous populations. We will pass in front of Martin Pérez Island. This island is protected by the armed forces of El Salvador, so it has been possible to maintain an imposing vegetation.

We will continue until we reach the Meanguera Island of the gulf. The only municipality in El Salvador that is an island. We will disembark on the island to know how the community lives, most of them dedicated to fishing and agriculture. You can walk the streets and avenues of this interesting city. For a long time the island had also been inhabited by Potones populations.

Without a doubt, the Gulf of Fonseca Tour is full of beauty. We will visit Zacatillo Island, the ideal place to enjoy a delicious lunch, prepared by local restaurants. The beach of this island has very soft waves, it is the ideal place to enjoy the waters of the Gulf of Fonseca. Currently the island is inhabited by about 2000 Salvadorans, but once many years ago the island functioned as a prison. Now it is a peaceful place.
