One of the most outstanding buildings in the city is the Church of Santa Lucia, located opposite the central plaza. Suchitoto means “Bird in flower”. Suchitoto is located near La Bermuda, an interesting site that keeps the remains of the first city of San Salvador. It is also near the largest archaeological site in the country: Cihuatán. El Salvador, due to the fertility of its land, was the site of numerous Spanish colonies throughout the region. They developed and exploited mainly the production of indigo. The colonial buildings in central america was the mixture of the Spanish and Arab construction. This was fused with the local materials that it found, resulting in beautiful houses, thick walls and large patios. Cool houses with large windows adorned with precious wrought iron fenders. Suchitoto has become the city of best preserved colonial architecture in the country. This city has survived over the years, to storms, earthquakes and civil wars. Suchitoto is waiting for you!
SUCHITOTO TOUR ITINERARY
Your guide will be waiting for you ready to start this amazing experience.
We will start our full day tour visiting the archaeological site Cihuatán. This place was built and used by a civilization after the disappearance of the Maya. Walks between the ball games, we will climb the pyramid of the great plaza. The name Cihuatan means the place next to the woman, you will discover the curious reason why it has this name.
Now it is time to continue our day in Suchitoto, we will have lunch in a typical restaurant of the place, enjoy different places to choose. The best restaurants have a nice view of Suchitlan Lake.
You will visit the interesting Los Tercios waterfall. This fabulous waterfall only has water during the rainy season from May to November. During the dry season you can only observe the impressive rock formation based on basalt columns.
Later we will make a walking tour accompanied by your guide in the main streets and buildings of the place, you will visit the municipal market, the central square and the Santa Lucia church. You will visit the local mills and observe the life of the inhabitants. Enjoy this Suchitoto city tour to the fullest.
You will enjoy free time to explore the city in your own way. You can do optional activities such as an indigo workshop, or take a boat ride on the lake of Suchitlan and observe the bird island. Or simply enjoy a coffee or buy local crafts.
We start our return to your lodging hotel in San Salvador, an approximate ride of 1 hour and a half. Approximate time of arrival 05.00 pm to 05.30 pm. End of our services.
